Kicaka was the mighty brother-in-law of the King Virata. While Pandavas are living in disguise in the palace of the King Virata, Pancali was known by the name of Sairandhri and was serving as a companion and attendant to the princess. One day Kicaka, tried to molest Pancali and Bhimasena who was working in the palace as a cook killed him. Kichaka was so strong that when he was killed the Kauravas became suspicious about Pandavas presence in Virata court as only Bimasena can kill Kicaka.
