A full day-night(ahoratram) is divided into 30 Muhurthas with each Muhurtha having 48 minutes(2 Ghati). Brahma Muhurtha is the Muhurtha 48 minutes before sun rise. So, Brahma Muhurtha start 96 minutes before sunrise and ends 48 minutes before sun rise. The deity of this period is Brahma. A day start with the end of Brahma Muhurtha and is called Arunodaya. According to Puranas, it’s the time when Aruna, the charioteer of Surya, arises above the horizon.
