The most renowned philosopher-king of ancient India. He was the ruler of Mithila and father of Sita. Janaka was mentioned in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad with great respect. The Rajyasabha at Mithila during the reign of Janaka was said to be as a place great philosophers like Yajnavalkya , Ashtavakra debated with other intellectuals. He is considered as a prime example of one who has attained total fulfillment in both material and spiritual life simultaneously without slighting either.
