Taksaka is king of Serpants. He was born to Kudru from her husband Kashyapa. Takshaka is famous for the puranic story about the curse on King Parikshith and Taksha biting the King to death.

Veda

King Parikshith was once cursed by a young brahmacharin for behaving badly to his father, a Rishi. Even though the brahmacharin later felt sorry for the king, his curse was so strong that, Thakshaka bite the king to death. King Janamejaya, the son of the king Parikshith came to know about the cruel act took vengeance to kill the whole race of serpents. Taksha took refuge under the seat of Indra, but he was pulled down along with Indra by the power of mantra. Sage Astika appeared on the yajnasala and advised to stop the Yagna; King Janamejaya and others obliged and thus saved Taksha and his race.
