Nirrti is the dikpalaka of south west corner.

Nirrti is opposite of Lakshmi. So called as Alakshmi. Nirrti or Alakshmi is not evil or all bad but it creates poverty, ugliness and adharma. The Vedic concept is that when divinity or Lakshmi is not cared Alakshmi bound to happen.

Alakshmi is a Vedic goddess said in many mantras like Sree Sukta

WWhile churning of Palazhi first the Goddess Nirrti appeared, there afteronly Goddess Lakshmi came out. So Nirrti is called elder sister of Lakshmi
