In General

Jiva is the conscious self or individual soul. Life sparks when jiva associate with five Karmedriyas (organs of action), five jnanedriya(organs of senses) and four anthakarana (internal organs: manas, buddhi, ahamkara, citta). Jiva is limited, bound by time and an empirical entity, so, It is not atma which a non-empirical entity. Jiva exist in body as long as prana is there and become part of susma sarira after death. The vasanas acquired by jiva during the life time migrate to the next birth through subtle body.
