Asita is an ancient Hindu sage very much honored by Buddhist texts. For instance the Sarga 1 of Buddhacharita quote an incidence where sage Asita came to know about birth of Buddha by his divine power and visited the lucky parents and said, “ As soon as I heard the divine voice in the heaven about the birth of a divine child in the Sakya race, I have arrived here to have a glimpse of the prince of the Sakya race.”
