In General

Harita was an ancient sage who authored Harita smriti and Harita gita. Harita smriti is a very old darmasastra text in prose and verse mixed form. It is describing the topics like duties during brahmacharin, garhasthya and vanaprastha ashram, various injunctions and prohibition. Harita smritia also describes, materials for yajna, and vedic prayers, lessons on statecraft, court procedure, sins and expiations.

Other writers on darmasutras like Vasista and Apasthamba has quoted from harita’s work; this shows the antiquity of work. Harita is found mentioned in Santhi parva of Mahabharatha.
